Tour of Hurley's Media Kicks Off First 2018 Leadership Cayman Seminar

08 Feb 2018

The first seminar of the 2018 Leadership Cayman programme took place this week on Wednesday, February 7, as the class sought to learn more about ‘Media in Our Community.’

The day started with a trip to Hurley’s Media in Camana Bay, where the class was joined by Jason Howard (Radio Operations Manager) and Kevin Morales (News Producer, Cayman 27). The pair took the class on a guided tour of the Hurley’s Media offices, allowing them a closer look at the newsroom and recording studios.

The class later arrived at the Government Administration Building, were they were joined by Donna Bush, News Director of CIG TV. Ms. Bush led the class on a guided tour of the Government building, before the class and guest speakers recessed for dinner.

The evening’s seminar focused on the importance of local media outlets and the influence it has on the community, and the expert panel for the evening included Mr. Jason Howard, Ms. Donna Bush, and Ms. Wendy Ledger, founder of Cayman News Service.

After the class members had finalised some breakout discussions, they engaged in a lively question-and-answer session with the panel of experts.

“It’s always a pleasure to come to Leadership Cayman events, as people are really engaged and ask great questions,” said Donna Bush.

“We all love to talk about what we do, but it’s really great when people are actually interested.”

Class member Melanie Ebanks-Jackson served as the mentor for the opening seminar, whilst class members Felicia Deslandes and Rayal Bodden served as moderators.

The Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Mr. Howard, Ms. Bush and Ms. Ledger for participating in the evening’s seminar, as well as Hurley’s Media and Government for their guided tours and for being welcoming hosts.

The Chamber would also like to thank programme partners Cox Lumber Ltd. and RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Ltd. for supporting Leadership Cayman.

The class will next meet on Wednesday, February 21 for the ‘Financial Services’ seminar.
