Reimagining Education: Inclusion, Innovation & Impact

25 Jun 2025

With site visits to Cayman International School (CIS) and John Gray High School, followed by a high-impact seminar at KPMG, Cricket Square, this session was a full-spectrum exploration of how Cayman is educating for the future.

The day began with immersive tours of CIS and John Gray, offering participants a firsthand look at the diversity of Cayman’s educational landscape—from state-of-the-art classrooms to the challenges of resource equity. These visits set the stage for a lively evening of dialogue and discovery.

Moderated by Richelle Hew and Carol Henry, the seminar featured a powerhouse panel of education leaders. Denise Williams, Principal of Lighthouse School, brought over 22 years of experience in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Her leadership is rooted in inclusive practices, community partnerships, and a belief that every student—regardless of ability—deserves a voice and a path to success.

Sir Paul Puckerin, Dean of Professional and Technical Education at UCCI, shared his mission to align education with real-world workforce needs. With a background in both public and private education and a focus on vocational training, Sir Paul highlighted the success of UCCI’s EU-funded TVET programme, which empowered 50 unemployed Caymanians with career-ready skills.

Chelsea Flynn, founder of Autism Acceptance, brought a deeply personal and professional lens to the conversation. A certified life coach and mother of an autistic child, Chelsea is a fierce advocate for neurodivergent learners. Through her nonprofit, she’s building bridges between families, schools, and employers to create a more inclusive Cayman.

Breakout sessions tackled bold questions: How do we define success beyond grades? Are we preparing students for a global economy? And how do we ensure inclusion is more than a checkbox?

The seminar also touched on the broader context—Cayman’s evolving curriculum, the rollout of digital tools like Arbor MIS, and the growing emphasis on emotional intelligence, environmental education, and vocational pathways.

The takeaway? Cayman’s education system is at a crossroads—rich with opportunity, but not without its challenges. And the leaders of tomorrow are ready to shape it with vision, empathy, and action.
