exploring the theme: “Past, Present, and Future Government Leaders in the Cayman Islands.”
The day began with a guided tour of the House of Parliament, where participants gained firsthand insight into the legislative process and the symbolic heart of Cayman’s democracy. From the Speaker’s chair to the historic chambers, the tour offered a rare behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of governance in the Islands.
Following the tour, the class reconvened at the Government Administration Building for dinner and networking in the GAB cafeteria. The evening seminar kicked off with a warm welcome from moderators Manisha Gupta, Craig Bodden, and mentor Lisa Parks, who set the tone for an evening of candid dialogue and reflection.
The seminar featured three dynamic breakout sessions, each led by a distinguished speaker representing a different era of Caymanian leadership:
Hon. D. Ezzard Miller, current Speaker of Parliament and long-serving public servant, reflected on the early days of self-governance and the lessons learned from decades in public life.
Hon. Katherine Ebanks-Wilks, Minister of Health, Environment, and Sustainability, shared her journey as a trailblazing young leader and her vision for modernizing Parliament and empowering youth.
Haymond Rankin, Associate Director at Cayman Finance and rising political figure, offered a forward-looking perspective on innovation, digital governance, and the role of emerging leaders in shaping Cayman’s future.
Each group rotated through the sessions, engaging in thoughtful Q&A and exploring topics ranging from constitutional reform and fiscal sustainability to civic engagement and the balance between tradition and innovation.
The evening concluded with a panel wrap-up and a lively debrief at The Roost, where participants shared takeaways, laughs, and reflections on the day’s discussions. From the legacy of past leaders to the promise of future changemakers, the seminar underscored the importance of inclusive, transparent, and visionary leadership.
As the final seminar in the 2025 series, the Government session served as a powerful reminder that leadership is not just about holding office—it’s about service, stewardship, and shaping a better future for all Caymanians.
