Leadership Cayman takes a look at the role of Media in our Community

01 Mar 2021

The second seminar for the Leadership Cayman 2021 class took place on Wednesday, February 24, with an in-depth look at the current role of the local media.

The LC class began their media explorations with a tour of the Cayman Islands Government TV Station (CIGTV) at Government Building guided by Donna Bush, News Director at CIG TV. The day continued with breakout sessions and a panel discussion at the offices of the Dart offices.

The aim of the seminar was to help the LC class learn more about how various media operate and the influence of these on business and professional life.

Leading the discussions were panelists Daphne Ewing-Chow, Journalist at Loop Cayman, and Freelance Writer for Forbes; Wendy Ledger, Journalist at Cayman News Services; Reshma Ragoonath, Journalist at Compass Media.

Each panelist spoke about their experiences as journalists, both the positive and negative aspects and reflected on their favourite stories to write. They also spoke about the different ways each media company operates as well as the challenges facing the local media.

The Media in our Community seminar was organised by Leadership Cayman 2021 class members, Micah Coleman and Dan DeFinis with support from their mentor, Anna Wootton.

Cox Lumber Ltd., Wheaton Precious Metals and RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Limited are the major sponsors of the Chamber of Commerce’s six-month leadership programme.
