Financial Services takes spotlight at Leadership Cayman seminar

17 Mar 2021

Leadership Cayman 2021 held its third seminar on Wednesday, March 10, at the Deloitte Building at One Capital Place in George Town, with the Cayman Islands financial services sector taking the spotlight.

The seminar began with a presentation by Brandon Caruana, Co-founder of Cartan Group, on Blockchain, a shared, immutable ledger that facilitates the process of recording transactions and tracking assets in a business network.

Leading the discussions were panelists Melissa Lim, Partner at Walkers Global, Brandon Caruana, Co-founder of Cartan Group, and Dan Scott, EY Market Segment Leader at EY Cayman Ltd. The class and speakers engaged in an insightful discussion about the financial services industry as the primary driver of Cayman’s economy. Other topics discussed included the ramifications of being on the FATF’s grey list and the role technology is playing in the financial services sector and how it can improve services such as retail banking. Promoting the Cayman Islands as a well-regulated, quality international financial centre was also one of the main focuses of the discussions.

The Financial Services seminar was organised by Leadership Cayman 2021 class members, Emma-Jane Fisher and Nicole Ebanks with support from their mentor, Candice Czeremuskin.

This seminar was sponsored by Deloitte. The Major sponsors for the six-month Leadership Cayman 2021 programme are Cox Lumber Ltd., Wheaton Precious Metals and RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Limited.
