The class were tasked with learning about the challenges of balancing and delivering on the demands of the key stakeholders to the immigration process (the Caymanian public, elected officials, expatriate residents, and the private sector), and to explore how the Cayman Islands can contribute to attract there acquired talent in order to compete in today’s global community.

The panelists for this seminar included:

  • Nicholas Joseph – Partner at HSM Chambers and an expert immigration lawyer
  • Laura Watler – Acting Director of Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC)
  • Steve McIntosh – Founder and CEO of CML Offshore Recruitment.

Immigration and Workforce Development issues discussed by panelists and Leadership Cayman class members ranged from the role of WORC in the immigration and employment services, new opportunities for Caymanian job seekers and employers needing to fill vacancies, as well as the impact of COVID-19 on the labour force, specifically in the tourism industry.

Leadership Cayman class members, Kate Ryley and Roderick Pierson with their LC mentor Laura-Jane Airey organised the seminar.

The Immigration and Workforce Development seminar sponsor was KPMG, while The Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa was the venue sponsor. The major sponsors for the six-month long programme are Cox Lumber Ltd., RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Limited, and Wheaton Precious Metals.

The class will next meet on Wednesday, June 16th for the ‘Healthcare & Human Services’ seminar.
