Leadership Cayman 2021 tour Owen Roberts International for Tourism seminar

21 May 2021

Leadership Cayman’s (LC) Stay-over and Cruise Tourism seminar took place on May 19th at the Owen Roberts International Airport.

As one of the main pillars of the Cayman Islands’ economy, tourism is one of the most important topics of discussion for the LC class. The seminar’s main objective was to provide an overview of the tourism sector of the Cayman Islands economy, demonstrating the importance of the sector and challenges faced, given the current economic conditions.

The class began the day with a presentation on the Cayman Islands Airports Authority’s (CIAA) origin and operations led by Mr. Albert Anderson, CEO of CIAA.

They later toured the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower led by Bobby Boggess, Air Traffic Controller, Supervisor at CIAA, and the Airfield led by Andy Green, Airports Operations Manager at CIAA.

The class then returned to the CIAA’s offices for the evening’s seminar.

On hand to speak more about the industry were expert guest panellists:

  • Mrs. Rosa Harris – Director Cayman Islands Department of Tourism
  • Mr. Marc Langevin – General Manager at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, and President of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA)
  • Hon. Kenneth Bryan, MP – Minister for Tourism & Transport

Leadership Cayman class members, Patricia McTaggart Duval and Marco Miranda with their LC mentor Chrystal Edwards organised the seminar.

Walkers was the seminar sponsor. Cox Lumber Ltd., Wheaton Precious Metals and RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Limited are the major sponsors of the Chamber of Commerce’s six-month leadership programme.

The class will next meet on Wednesday, June 2nd for the ‘Immigration & Workforce Development’ seminar.
