With a tour of Health City at Camana Bay, followed by an evening seminar at Deloitte, this session explored the future of medicine in Cayman and the challenges that come with it.

The tour offered a firsthand look at Health City’s state-of-the-art facilities, including its new Radiation Oncology Centre, which is transforming cancer care in the region. From robotic surgery to regenerative medicine, participants saw how Cayman is positioning itself as a serious player in the global medical tourism space.

The seminar featured three standout speakers. Dr. Vikas Roshan, Head of Radiation Oncology at Health City, shared insights on precision cancer treatments and the promise of stereotactic radiosurgery. Dr. Christopher Williams, Medical Director at Regenexx Cayman, brought a regenerative medicine perspective—highlighting how stem cell therapies are helping patients avoid surgery and recover faster. Dr. Nick Gent, Chief Medical Officer for the Cayman Islands Government, offered a systems-level view, addressing the urgent need for affordability, equity, and resilience in public health.

Breakout sessions tackled big questions: How can Cayman balance medical tourism with local access? What role should stem cell therapy play in mainstream care? And how do we ensure that healthcare remains a right—not a luxury?

Participants also explored the broader landscape: a dual public-private system, rising rates of lifestyle-related diseases, and a growing population that’s putting pressure on hospital capacity. The seminar touched on everything from hospital bed shortages and workforce gaps to the upcoming 10-year national health strategy, which aims to align policy with real-world needs.

With Caymanians facing long wait times in the public system and high costs in the private sector, the conversation turned to solutions: public-private partnerships, expanded training programs, and smarter investment in preventative care.

As Cayman’s healthcare sector grows in sophistication and global reach, the challenge is clear: how do we ensure that innovation serves everyone—not just those who can afford it? And how can Cayman lead the region in both medical excellence and health equity?
