Leadership Cayman 2021 Partners with ARK for Class Project

07 Apr 2021

The Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Cayman 2021 class partnered with Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) in late March to repair the interior and exterior of Mr. C's home in West Bay.

Mr. C was involved in a car accident and suffered extensive injuries. While he was recovering, squatters entered his West Bay home and left in an unlivable condition which prevented him from returning until repairs were completed.

“The LC Class of 2021 collectively voted to work alongside ARK to assist with their CASA home improvement project.  Hearing about Mr. C's situation and being able to contribute to a tangible result that would allow Mr. C to return to his home and improve his quality of life made this project an easy choice for the class planners and the group as a whole,” explained Steve Bull, a LC 2021 class member and one of the organisers for the project.

On Saturday, March 27, the class began the first of a two-day project to paint the interior and exterior of the house.

“Around 15 members of the LC 2021 class spent 4 hours priming and painting the walls and ceiling of the renovated house in a colour chosen by Mr. C. The intention was for Mr. C to return to the property the following day. In the coming weeks, the class will return to the property to complete the job by repainting the exterior.”

“Mr. C is back home and super happy,” expressed Tara Nielsen, Director at Cayman’s Ark Foundation.

The Class Project was organised by class members Jodie Hooper, Rolna DaCosta and Steve Bull with their mentor, Wes Heistand.

The project was sponsored by Cayman National Bank.

Cox Lumber Ltd., Wheaton Precious Metals and RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Limited are the major sponsors of the Chamber of Commerce’s six-month leadership programme.

Leadership Cayman is an intensive six-month programme, introduced by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, that enables class members to develop new skills and learn vital information about the Cayman Islands’ community and business sector.  The class attend bi-weekly seminars on a range of different topics, learning from expert and local leaders, government officials and keynote speakers as well as carryout a community project.

To date, 263 persons have completed the programme since its launch in 2010.

We will begin accepting applications for the 2022 class in June. For more information, please visit www.leadershipcayman.ky or contact Nina Robinson-Downs at nina.robinson-downs@caymanchamber.ky or call (345) 743-9121.
