Leadership Cayman learns about the Cayman Islands Government

Leadership Cayman’s last seminar on Wednesday 5 July explored the Cayman Islands Government, beginning with a tour of the House of Parliament in Fort Street. Speakers for the breakout sessions included Mr. Joseph Hew, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for George Town North; Mr. Christopher Saunders, Member of Parliament for Bodden Town West, and Mrs. Gloria McField – Nixon, Cert. Hon., JP Chief Officer, Portfolio of the Civil Service.

As Managing Director of his family’s group of companies and a Past President of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Hew brings a wealth of business experience to his role in public life. Following his re-election in 2017 he was named Minister for Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure.

Mr. Saunders served as a Director of the Health Services Authority where he chaired the Finance Sub-Committee as well as a member of the Immigration Business Staffing Plan Board.

Chris’ experience within the private sector is very far reaching. He has worked in tourism, aviation, development, financial services, and telecommunication, and he lso served as Deputy Premier in the PACT Government.

Mrs. Gloria McField-Nixon is the Chief Officer of the Portfolio of the Civil Service (PoCS) where she provides leadership on human resources policy, public sector reform and corporate governance. Her public service career spans more than 25 years,

Dinner and Seminar was at Butterfield Place, 12 Alber Panto Street and on the 7th Floor at Mangrove, Calabash and Silver Thatch Boardrooms. A fun and enjoyable debrief at the Cayman Cabana ended the evening, where lively discussion helped the group consolidate the day’s experience.
